Draftsperson / Building Designer
Are you an experienced draftsperson? Join our high-performing team and use your expertise to help make dream homes a reality!
G.J. Gardner Homes Sydney Blacktown is a family-owned and operated business, blending deep-rooted values with high-level professional expertise. We specialise in a wide range of projects—from knockdown rebuilds and vacant site builds to high-end custom homes. We are dedicated to providing the reliability and local knowledge needed to make our clients' dream homes a reality.
The Opportunity
Based at our Blacktown office, you will be a key driver in turning architectural visions into buildable realities. As our Draftsperson / Building Designer, you will bridge the gap between initial sales concepts and final working drawings. You will work closely with our New Homes Consultants and directly with customers to modify existing plans and create custom designs that balance aesthetic appeal with construction pragmatism. If you are a design professional who thrives on technical accuracy and client interaction, this is the perfect career step for you.
Perks You'll Love
Work-Life Balance: Enjoy consistent office hours, Monday to Friday. To better serve our clients, there is an option for occasional weekend work to accommodate meetings, but this is not a deal-breaker if you cannot commit to weekends.
Expert Support: Work alongside an experienced leadership team in an environment that truly understands the technical facets of high-end and custom residential building.
Competitive Reward: Receive a salary package tailored to your specific level of industry experience.
Stability & Legacy: Represent a brand with over 40 years of building excellence and a strong, nationally recognised reputation.
What You'll Be Doing
Concept Collaboration: Partner with New Homes Consultants and customers during the initial concept stage to bring their ideas to life.
Plan Modification: Customise and modify existing G.J. Gardner floor plans to meet specific site requirements and unique client preferences.
Technical Drafting: Prepare comprehensive and accurate working drawings and documentation ready for construction.
Pragmatic Design: Develop designs that are visually stunning while remaining cost-effective and structurally sound.
Visualisation: Utilise CAD software to create detailed 2D designs and high-quality 3D renderings to help clients visualise their future homes.
Approval Coordination: Prepare DA/CDC plans and liaising with external consultants for successful submission to council and/or certifiers.
Client Engagement: Maintain direct, professional communication with clients to ensure their design journey is seamless and transparent.
What You'll Bring
Residential Experience: You must have at least 2 years of proven experience as a Draftsperson or Building Designer within the residential sector (specifically detached housing).
Design Flair: A keen eye for design, with the ability to handle "trickier" projects like sloping blocks or complex knockdown rebuilds.
Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit, or ArchiCAD). Experience with 3D rendering software is highly regarded.
Communication Skills: You are comfortable with direct customer contact, possessing the ability to explain technical design elements to non-technical clients clearly.
Organisational Excellence: The ability to manage multiple design files simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced sales and construction environment.
